JOHN CLEESE ON CREATIVITY AND MY SPACE TIME OASIS

Updated: Aug 26, 2023

John Cleese, in a 2020 Video Arts presentation, posits that creativity is not simply an innate ability but rather a distinctive method of operation. This involves two significant operational modes: the open mode for contemplating issues and formulating responses, and the closed mode to implement these solutions effectively. The key lies in seamlessly transitioning between these states.

If we consider creativity as a functional strategy, it may be possible to nurture this skill by creating an environment at home that mirrors one's perfect sanctuary. My personal version would appear as follows:

Yet, as for my own experience, I've encountered a pitfall...

Despite the lack of a hearth in my professional setting, I have identified unique methods for creating an environment conducive to time-space escapism. Basic strategies such as modifying my immediate habitat, enjoying a satisfying meal or immersing myself in classical music facilitate entry into my individual intuitive realm; this transition aligns with the dual operational modes outlined by John Cleese's theory (Video Arts, 2020). Intriguingly enough, these techniques share similarities with the notion of slow multitasking - providing me with opportunities to reset and refresh while simultaneously maintaining creativity and productivity levels.
