Can Creativity Be Taught by Sir Ken Robinson

Updated: Aug 26, 2023

The lecture delivered by Sir Ken Robinson in 2014 is profoundly enlightening. His discerning observations on creativity and pedagogy are exceptionally accurate and stimulating. Throughout his discourse, he underscores three principal notions: the notion that CREATIVITY IS A PROCEDURE which CAN BE BOTH LEARNED AND UTILIZED, as well as the idea that PEDAGOGY INVOLVES EMPOWERING, MOTIVATING, SUPPORTING AND GUIDING.

I am entirely in agreement with Robinson's viewpoints.

Initially, based on my encounters with various artists I have noticed they consistently regard their works of art to be continuously developing projects - a sentiment perfectly aligned with Robinson's declaration from 2014.

Secondly, cognitive neuropsychology provides evidence supporting this perspective; Morten Friis-Olivarius demonstrated through his TEDx Talk in 2018 how forming distinctive associations between real-world occurrences and recollections forms the fundamental crux of creativity- thereby emphasizing its teachable nature within creative processes.

Lastly but not least important aspect is education’s core purpose being to encourage individuals towards lifelong learning pursuits. This continuous endeavor aids fresh knowledge acquisition which can then be passed onto subsequent generations.
